ampersand

On Saturday, G and I decided to do something vaguely cultural by going to the Seattle Book & Paper Show . It wasn't exactly what I had expected. I was really looking forward to some book arts and perhaps some hand made papers, but what we found were stand after stand of expensive and rare books. Granted this is still pretty cool but we really aren't in the market for expensive collectibles.  However, we did end up buying a couple of photos from Ampersand which is a gallery and vintage book and photo and ephemera store from Portland, Ore. While I can't share exactly what we purchased, I did dig around on their site and blog to present you with these:  Go, dig around, find something unusual and fantastic . We did. And I'm pretty sure we'll be stopping by next time we're in Portland. Ah the list grows longer and longer.

abby try again

maybe it's my quiet mood, maybe it's because I'm longing for warmer weather, but I feel like I need new pretty things on the wall. so I just bought three prints from  abby try again . I have been coveting her work for oh so long, but I could never decide which ones I wanted. In fact although I chose one of these three here, I had trouble deciding which ones I wanted to show you. so go, look .  and she's packing up and moving to texas so she is having a clearance sale going on until may 9. how could I possibly resist? can you? {all photos abby try again  also here  and her lovely blog here }

pushing up tulips

hiding tulips I don't know if you've heard, but Poloroid film is back in production making many many people jump for joy. I myself have owned several poloroid cameras (not that I know where they are now) including the classic, the wide version, and the little izone sticker poloroid camera. my friends and I used them as a guest book at a going away party for a dear friend. we tacked up poloroids of every one of the rotating tenants in our apartment in our kitchen. because over the last two yearspoloroid film was hard to come by, I entrusted a friends "regular" high tech, digital camera to take the photobooth pics at our wedding. yeah, that didn't work out . I still haven't seen the few photos that did end up getting taken. in any case, with the return of poloroid film, I thought I'd do what any fan would do, take pictures on my crappy blackberry camera and put them through polodroid . yes, you too can make your regular pictures look like poloroid pi...

roller skates

it's been a wreck of a day. i've been running around like a crazy person all day, and while i don't think roller skates would have done anything but make my day worse, this makes me smile... {image from you are my fave: Ginormous polaroids are my fave yeah, the Poloroid that took this takes instant 20 x 24 inch photos}

don we now our gay apparel

Cara and Jeff's Wedding in 73 Seconds by Jeff Kirsch on Vimeo . Cara says, "the most important thing to remember when planning your wedding: know yourself and be yourself." I just read this on Meg's blog and I wish I had that sense of clarity when planning my wedding. And, if I could take my 800 wedding photos and turn them into a cohesive, fantastic video like the one above, I would. But... We set up a "photospot" at our wedding and left a box of "gay apparel" for donning while taking pics, but something went wrong with the camera and/or our guests couldn't figure out how to work it. The pics that I have seen from our photospot were taken by our photographer, who realized that that once someone had grabbed an axe and the rubber chicken head, it was time to take some pics. And they are awesome. And the very kind and wonderful and super busy owner of said "difficult" camera handed me a jump drive over xmas that supposedly contained...

the muse effect

all right all you photoshop experts out there, what do you do to give an images this glow-y dreamy effect? would you say this is a poloroid sort of effect? holga? don't get me wrong, I love my photographer, Kathryn , but I was thinking it would be fun to edit a photo or two to look like this. there's just something about this that says ethereal wedding... {image from english muse }
I know, I know. I haven't given you all what you really want - the pics of the dress. But I received something like 900 digital photos. Typical me, I'm having trouble deciding on what to show you. So instead, because I just read meg's love song to one love photo I'm posting one of Heather and Jon's lovely pics. How gorgeous is Jennifer's not quite white dress? {image: one love photo }

the not white dress

I don't want to go crazy here, but seriously, go check out One Love Photo . And I haven't posted about the not white dress in a while, but check out this gorgeous rose pink number, and I love those centerpieces...

hooray!

Heather at One Love Photo has given me permission to post some of her gorgeous photos. I said it before, I can't afford her, but you really should check out her work even still, because her work is stunning, and she isn't so unaffordable. Like everyone says, depending on what you spend your money on, maybe you have a little extra for the memories. Just yesterday, I heard yet another bride tell me that she wished she had more pictures because the whole day was a blur. And some more advice from Chelene - once the day has come, pause to enjoy as much as you can. First, this is why I fell in love with my venue. It really is beautiful. But then, Heather and her husband John took these shots too: this from here , and remember this from a practical wedding ? Yeah, I thought so.

first, I can't afford her

But I just wanted to mention One Love Photo's Heather Gilson . Her work is beautiful. And, the last wedding she posted was at the LUC, my venue. I don't know that I've mentioned how paranoid I am that our photos will be bad, because the venue is darkish in a romantic sort of way. But I am, especially after seeing the tragic photo's on the LUC's website gallery (I'm sorry if that is your wedding, I'm not bashing you, I just don't want to hire your photographer). I have only interviewed one photographer so far, and I do love her work. But I have been non-commital on everything in the last few days so... I haven't gone into further discussion. Anyway. Go check out One Love Photo , and check out some not just decent, but gorgeous pics of my venue .

mustaches!!!
