how does your garden grow?

We had a few more days of glorious sun last week, so I spent a good amount of time digging around in the garden, both mine and my mom's.  It's both inspiring and exhausting.  I have a lot of space to work with, and yet I have too much space to work with. Without much help from me, spring begins with tulips and bluebells brightening the green green beds.  Once they retire for the year, it's up to me.  Soon.  I have already begun pulling out some of the weeds and grass that have invaded in full force.   I have already planted some sweet peas, beets, arugula, and carrots into one of the planter boxes.  I've got six inches of pea shoots already!  And, I think with last night's rain, they grew another inch today, but I'm not exactly getting out the ruler. Otherwise, I am getting inspired for plantings, assuming I ever do get those weeds pulled out.  I have a color scheme all picked out.  I have seeds and a few tiny geranium...

how does your garden grow? part 1

hello loves, sorry to have been gone so long. these last two weeks have been filled with craziness and drama and elation in just downright bizarre ways. I have tons to share, but first I'll start with green thoughts. my garden has been successful in some ways and less so in others but if there is one thing I love it's herbs. herbs in my salad, herbs in my cooking, herbs just cause they're pretty - my sage has sprouted some lovely purple flowers which I suppose you can eat and I just bought an ornamental oregano that looks like pink hops! (pictures later). but no matter how successful my garden is now, in August, I know that winter is coming and that I'll still want some herbs. rosemary and thyme are usually pretty available all year round here, but basil and parsley? not so much. so, I might have to figure out where to hang one of these lovely pieces. { woolly pocket } { woolly pocket black wally } * of course I first saw it on  coco kelley

the red chair

Outside of my obsession with black and white stripes, I have been pining away for red chairs in my backyard. It started with a couple of red painted adirondack chairs I saw sitting on the deck of a real estate agency during our recent jaunt to Cannon Beach. Naturally I did not snap a picture of them. But with my pining, I keep thinking of all of these gorgeous little Parisienne pictures on  little brown pen , convinced that I had also seen red bistro chairs there. When what I actually saw were the gorgeous and lovely pictures below, but that aren't the chairs in my head. Instead...  { little brown pen } Imagine how I might have been confused with this one. { little brown pen } { little brown pen } That's a bit more like what I had in mind... {polly wreford via the haystack needle } the red bistro chair yep. something like that. or this: { here } anyways, I'm going outside.  happy friday!!!!

it's not easy being green

{by me} I have a weird guilt complex when it comes to being green. First- I carry a reusable bag everywhere I go and feel so much guilt if I need another at a grocery that I either buy another one or put back some of the things I was planning on purchasing. (G can't stand it when I do this because we have so many reusable bags - but we don't have a ton of paper bags either). Second- I buy all green cleaners (although I may not clean as often as I need to) going so far as to not purchase bleach. This means my white linens aren't so white anymore (if anyone has any solutions that actually work for this one, please share). Third- when I am outside of my home, I drink my beverages out of reusable tumblers (my stainless keeps my tea nice and toasty at my desk for a long time too). I even harassed my G into getting one of those funny ceramic ones with the rubber top that look just like a paper cup. He chose one with a cute little bee design on it. ah bees (very good for...
