how does your garden grow?

{image via design*sponge}
last week, my landlord took it upon himself to build a raised bed in our backyard for vegetable gardening. Isn't that sweet?? but, having never gardened before, I decided to over-prepare by diving into a few gardening books. naturally I was overwhelmed until my mom helped me pick out some plants at the nursery. yesterday I sectioned out my plot with twine, built a trellis for my snap peas and planted broccoli, leeks, chives, garlic, nasturtiums and three kinds of lettuce. next weekend, I'll sow seeds of beets, zucchini, yellow squash and beans. I figure if I try to grow everything something is bound to pop up. I have to wait until May to plant tomatoes, but they are part of the plan. It was so lovely to communicate with nature a little. are you trying to grow anything this year?

have you entered my le creuset giveaway yet???

  2. i want to but i've never tackled a garden before, just radishes and potatoes in 5 gallon buckets! thinking of starting a little community garden... but we'll see! i think we have a little more time out here in NC, especially considering that it snowed yesterday. :(

  3. I didn't know you could do potatoes in buckets? I thought they needed more dirt than that. I thought about trying to grow them but I guess I have too much growing in my tiny little bed. The tomatoes and herbs have already been kicked out and into pots. It's been really warm here this year. I'm a little worried that we'll have a freak freeze in the next couple of weeks - two years ago it snowed at the beginning of April. If you have a sunny window, you can still start your gardening inside...

  4. I love homegrown tomatoes. I have to admit though, I'm not exactly best friends with plants. Their history isn't a great one in my house.
