the list

maybe it's the heat, maybe it's that I've been to the gym every other day for the last two weeks (trying to feel better about me), maybe it's that I'm just ready to strip it all away (more that just the clothing and the fat) and let whatever happens happen. meg recently posted about bringing the zen - so I say bring it. I am ready for my sun-induced meditation on love.

that post on 100 layer cake about the wedding planned in 7 days really made me think about streamlining.

I have just over three months to go and the knot's list says I'm behind. Well, how exactly do you check off boxes that say "think about how to do your hair" ? ookaaay - check!

here's the thing, if my guests want something from a wedding besides what I provide at this shindig, they can get their own wedding. this one is mine. if my wedding is a deeply bland affair to attend, well, that sucks for you, I get to get married so it won't be for me. if my indie (is that what I am?), diy (am I?) wedding is not  "totally unique" (which is grammatically incorrect by the by) or perfectly us, well I will make it ours if only because we are getting married.

so far we have completed:
venue (ceremony and reception plus catering) - check
cake (thanks mom) - check
save-the-dates (so most people know about it) - check
champagne (thanks dad) - check
dress (I own it, it's in alterations process) - check
photographer - almost check ___
registering for things I don't need - ___
invitations - in the works
flowers (farmers market - if I have to, i'll tie a ribbon around three dahlias and be done) - ___
officiant (she's getting certified) - check
man of my dreams - check!!

what am I forgetting?
I dare you to tell me.

  2. Thank you thank you thank you for this:

I am so tired of reading about linens, bathroom baskets (who cares!) and all the entertainment I should be planning for my guests. I think I'm an anti-bride, but I do enjoy your blog!

  3. HA! You are already way ahead of the game. All you need is venue (check) and officiant (your basically there, so check) and you can get married! Anything beyond that is already more than what is necessary :) I try to remind myself of that everyday, and it has definitely helped!

that just made my day. i'm getting so tired of everyone's facial expressions when they find out *gasp* - our wedding is going to be OURS - and represent US! If I have to hear "you're wearing red shoes??", or 'what do you mean you're making your invites?", or "what do you mean you don't have a colour??" I'm going to lose it.

i have a feeling our wedding dates are at about the same time (mine is sept 12th) - I think your wedding check list is perfect (and about what mine looks like - including the diy bouquet).

you just might be my new best blog friend! so glad i found you!

  5. you all are so, so sweet! and i just came home stressed again because i got an email from a relative asking if I had a list of hotels or blocked out hotel rooms yet. um, i haven't even sent out the invite, let alone gotten the rsvps, so no, I haven't thought about where everyone should stay. ugh.

  6. Screw the Knot's checklist. I think if you have the cake and champagne, you're pretty much set for the party! And otherwise, the officiant and the license is all that you need to make the party into a wedding.

And I totally hear you on the seemingly innocent but oh-so-stressful questions from relatives. My favorite: "Where are you registered?", over a year before the wedding. Followed closely by, "Where is the fine china registry?" and then "You're not registering for china? But how will you get your place settings?!" We're klutzy. We don't want $100 plates. I'm pretty sure the marriage is still legal.
