how many years was it?

when G asked me to marry him, nearly one year ago, he knew I'd want to pick out my own ring. He bought an inexpensive silver ring that had six intertwined pieces - a puzzle ring. six pieces because he couldn't find a ring with eight for the eight years we had been together, and a puzzle ring because "everyone is so puzzled as to why I haven't asked you yet." yeah, a bit cheesy, but aren't all romantic things a little cheesy? the problem was, the ring was huge. it didn't even fit my thumb. and since I wanted a ring on my finger "right now!!" we went to the store and exchanged it for one that fit. they didn't have the puzzle ring he bought me in my size and they actually had a pretty terrible selection overall so we left with a rather plain, temporary ring that was still a little too big. I just have small hands. now, I could have picked any engagement ring I wanted (within reason of course) but I'm not a diamond solitaire kind of girl, I f...

he already hid it from me

yesterday we picked up my custom wedding ring from Green Lake Jewelry Works . why custom? well, because I have tiny fingers. the ring pictured below is the ring that my ring was modeled after, only my sapphires are blue. It's tiny and delicate and I won't be wearing an engagement ring along side it because, well, I guess I'm just not that kind of girl. Right now I am wearing the third of my engagement rings. the first was the one G used to propose to me. it was a full size and a half too big and a little cumbersome. the second was the one I traded it in for, but it was actually a little too big and sharp, so it cut into the sides of my other fingers. It was also very plain, but I wanted a ring on my finger NOW! my third engagement ring is a cheap $33 set of silver stackers. The total expenditure of my rings? $52 + tax. eh. what can I say, I'm just not into diamonds. What was it Holly Golightly said ? "diamonds are tacky for women under 40." okay. that can be m...

and then, and then,

one. mismikado's journey down the aisle.   love her blog but then check out her post on the $500 challenge for the non-diy bride . how often do you feel overwhealmed by the idea of diy'ing for your own wedding? as a semi-perfectionista, I know I do. she gives you dresses, accessories and flowers with sources for a bride and three bridesmaids. for this is great inspiration for all. (and what piece did I choose to share?  the dress of course. I have a total one track mind.) { here } two. stamp of approval . from martha's bride's guide, comes this:  while i love the idea, I had to replace my engagement ring because it had edges just like this one and it was cutting into my surrounding fingers. and if you ever get blisters from handwashing with rings on... marked for life. the point? yes and no... { here }

wrapped around my finger

So, I know I already have an engagement ring, but now I want this one. from plum & sage . {do you think this has to do with the fact that I haven't found my wedding ring yet? {plus five more months of the ring I did choose cutting into my other two fingers. when choosing your rings, may I recommend a comfort fit ring with less of the sharp edges.}}

ring around my toe

This is the ring that I'm looking for, if it weren't 2 & 1/2 sizes too big. From Doyle & Doyle . Mostly antique.
and the rings . Isadora's in Seattle
