The Mystery of Your Thirst

I need to learn to read the signs around me more carefully.  Things come to me with repetition as if they are tapping on my shoulder.  It isn't as if I read everything I receive, cataloguing with impressive organization.  It's more as if I skip like a stone across the water of the influx of information rushing at me, finding inspiration in repetition as if the singular would not be loud enough.  Often it isn't.  Even in repetition, I'm still unsure how to interpret the hieroglyphs. I stumbled on the above today, only hours after reading The Mystery of Your Thirst by Rob Brezsny . I'm trying to figure out if I can see the river or if I know about water.

I hate drama

When did Downton Abbey become about making you sad? I know it was always a drama, but i swear it wasn't always so serious. Why is it that the Dowager is the only comic relief anymore?After last night's episode, it's become too much! (conveniently at the end of season three, but...). I know its silly, but anything I stay up past my Sunday night bedtime to watch should not make me so depressed that I have dreams about loved ones dying. And being able to see into my neighbors backyard at a strangely perfect patch of green lawn (???). G reminded me that this is exactly what makes the show so good and that is why I loved Six Feet Under so much - weekly tragedy. I disagree. I watch plenty of series where characters don't die randomly at just the perfect moment. And really, isn't it too perfect? A bit too much foreshadowing? A hate that I already have a knot in the pit of my stomach before anything has actually happened. And really, would it be so bad if things worked o...

for the husbands and husbands to be

I admit it: I like action movies. and stupid comedies. sometimes more than good movies because when choosing entertainment, I like to laugh. I liked Kick Ass. I liked Wanted. I liked Iron Man (although Iron Man 2 was a huge disappointment - Jason Theroux, don't f@#$ up Zoolander 2). I have seen Zoolander too many times too count. I have seen Eurotrip too many times to count.  I have seen Step Up 3D in the theater (my husband saw it twice). So when I see trailers like this one, I get excited. I also own the entire series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on dvd. If you don't like it, that's fine, but I have turned many naysayers to yaysayers with Buffy. Admit it, you want to see a girl kick some ass. It feels good. And your man, he probably likes it too.

something girly

in the last month I cajoled my G into watching the BBC Pride and Prejudice mini-series and in the last week into following it up with the Joe Wright  Pride & Prejudice film  (the one with Keira Knightley). I had already seen the Keira Knightley version somewhat recently and had been charmed by the gorgeous countryside and general, you know, girlieness of it. Ah romance. Naturally, after imposing the overacted but more book inclusive miniseries on my man, I wanted him to compare it to the movie along with me. And now that I have and we both agree that the movie is better despite the plot missteps, I'm reading the book. Actually, as per usual, I'm reading three books right now.  Ms. Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Dan Savage's The Commitment , and Eat Pray Love (Belinda don't judge me!). I guess I treat books a little like tv - I like to watch more than one show and still come back to it. The last couple of weeks has been a true test of my nature. I tend to be a ...

let them eat cake...

...and other historical facts and falasies. it seems that today, february 22nd, good ol' george's birthday is a big day in bloggerland. happy birthday to 100 layer cake and to erin ever after . the pretty things that you have shared in the last year have given me a little more pretty in my life and i thank you. so from the bottom of my heart I thought I'd share this probably very short lived (it constantly gets pulled of the youtubes) and pretty crass "biography" of first president George. (because I couldn't find any powdered wigs that were pretty enough to share and weren't related to Marie Antoinette .) {as you can see I decided on Marie Antoinette too...}

the mouse will play

G is off on an incredibly rare business trip, so I have a couple of nights to be extra girlie (roommate permitting). I bumped up a couple of girlie flicks on the netflix, but Coco Before Chanel had a "very long wait." Then G said, "I'll totally watch that with you." I guess that means I'll be watching * 27 dresses tomorrow instead. (even with all of the bridal porn, I've still never seen any of the wedding chick flicks of the last couple of years. I know deep down it will probably kind of suck, just like that time I watched The Holiday while waiting to pick up G from the airport.) *all right. I've now watched 27 dresses. it was okay. but sometimes a girlie flick is just satisfying. don't you think?

what is your favorite romantic movie?

Kelley at My Island Wedding posted the question for a valentine's day movie guide. I personally would rather stay in and watch a romantic movie with G. I don't want to spent it with a bunch of other couples based on forced romanticism. give me year round spontaneous love, please. and keep it coming. so we'll probably stay in and watch a romantic film. I'll have to consult with G on this one, but my favorite is When Harry Met Sally . The Princess Bride is great too. And then on our second date we went to see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon which was a lovely choice for a date. so, answer here, answer there , but what is your favorite romantic movie? p.s. Amelie is amazing too... I don't know how I could have forgotten...
